I’m running Rhino 8 on parallels and it’s crashing when I work with python components in grasshopper. On SR16.
Edit: It also crashes under random events such like drawing a wire between components. It looks like it has something to do with visual updates that triggers the crash (without crash report)
Further edit: All default settings for group colors and panel colors reset at every crash
I’m aware, but doesn’t change the fact that many users still use it. And if there was an easy fix or a setting change to improve performance it would be very nice.
The easy fix is “don’t use parallels.” That crap was never intended to be used with OpenGL apps, it’s hard enough for the makers of actual GPUs to maintain quality drivers, never mind pretend drivers for virtual machines never intended to be used for high-performance OpenGl applications.
No “many” users don’t use it, you just read about them disproportionately because they have constant problems.
This is what actually surprised me - that there is no crash report. I thought that this may hint towards a certain type of error, that I with some setting choices potentially can mitigate.
I generally want to move towards pure rhino for Mac, but I still sometimes rely on being in windows.
So to anyone who is reading or finding this in the future, I will keep updating this thread with my experiences. I have now disabled GPU tessellation and have not experienced any problems today.
I’m using Windows 11 on parallels 20.2.0 on a M4 Max. Having manually given around 75% of cores and ram to Parallels. Rhino SR16.
