In the Rhino WIP, we’ve improved the guides system.
What are Guides?
Guides are infinite construction lines that can speed up creating aligned geometry. These are particularly useful for drafting (floor plans, elevations, 2D construction drawings).
Why this Improved Feature?
In previous versions of Rhino, you could add and remove guides as well (AddGuide, RemoveGuide). The most frequently requested improvements have been:
- To keep the guide lines visible at all times.
- An improved workflow and the display .
What has Changed?
- Visibility: Toggle the visibility of guides by activating the
AutoHideoption in theAddGuidecommand. A button in the new Guides toolbar (Curve Tools tab) quickly lets you toggle the visibility of the guides in the document. The setting ofAutoHideis remembered between sessions. - Parallel Guides: The new
Offsetoption in theAddGuidecommand lets you quickly create a number of parallel guides at a precise distance from each other. Doing so in previous versions required creating additional temporary geometry or using more advanced snap options. - One-command workflow: The new
RemoveGuideoption in theAddGuidecommand lets you delete guides without having to exit the command and start theRemoveGuidecommand so that you can create all necessary guides for a project in one go. - SmartTrack: Running the
AddGuidecommand no longer automatically turns on the SmartTrack feature. In tthe Rhino WIP, the user decides when to turn that feature on or off. - Platform parity: The
ImportGuidecommand now works on macOS as well as on Windows. - Display: The “dotted” version of the guides are now clearer than they were in previous versions. You can switch to this display style from the “SmartTrack and Guides” page in the Modeling Aids options.
