Rhino to Revit - Categories and parameters

Hello All
I work on the Project Management Consulting side of things.

I need to know whether RHino3D can deliver what my client requires.

I need to know whether the software can or cannot produce something and if it can, what are the options and outcomes.

I have consultants using Rhino3D to develop a concept model, which they export to Autodesk Revit as well as Vectorworks.

Regarding the Revit side of things:

Could someone tell me please in bullet point format below.

  1. Can Rhino3D model elements be assigned a Revit category to export to?

  2. What Revit categories are available in this export? Please provide in list.

  3. Is it possible to assign default Revit category element parameters, to Rhino3D elements, in the export process / setup?

  4. Please provide a list of available Revit category parameters to elements?

  5. Do assigned materials carry across during the above export processes?

This forums’ assistance will be much appreciated.

Regards,

1. Can Rhino3D model elements be assigned a Revit category to export to?

there are several ways to assign revit categories, Direct Shape or as a Family

2. What Revit categories are available in this export? Please provide in list.

See list of Categories available through the Revit API BuiltInCategory Enumeration

A lot depends on the workflow you are doing, but generally they are easily accessible to assign.

3. Is it possible to assign default Revit category element parameters, to Rhino3D elements, in the export process / setup?

See the guide but any Revit value can be assigned to a Rhino Object as a key/value pair (UserText)

4. Please provide a list of available Revit category parameters to elements?

See above.

5. Do assigned materials carry across during the above export processes?

Maybe? Depends on your workflow and desired outcome, Revit Materials very complex (see guide)

Check out the guide for additional details.
