Rhino Status Bar Enhancement Suggestion

As I work with Rhino, I find I frequently want to query an object’s properties, particularly its Object Type and Material assignment. I find it inconvenient to interrupt present workflow in order to open the Properties and/or Materials panels to find this information. I’m wondering whether these properties could be included as new fields in the Status Bar. In addition to the Layer field already present, it would be very handy to see, at a glance, the specific Object Type of the selected item without having to click on the Properties panel. A few examples of the Object Types are closed polysurface, open curve, trimmed surface, closed extrusion, etc. Correspondingly, it would also be helpful to expose the Material assigned to the object rather than needing to open the Materials panel.

I realize that space is at a premium on the Status Bar and some of the resulting values may be too lengthy for complete display. Abbreviated descriptions may be one solution. Another might be a simple mouseover popup that doesn’t require a physical mouse click.

Please give this your consideration.

Just dock the panels you need. That way you don’t have to pick them. I always have the layers and objects properties docked.

Thank you DanBayn, but my Properties and Materials panels are already docked on my Right Container. The point is that I want to avoid the additional mouse clicks and workflow interruption required to expose the object’s information in favor of a couple “always on”/“at-a-glance” fields on the Status Bar like the existing Layer field. I appreciate your suggestion however.
