Rhino.Inside Revit build 1.6.8151.18094 Causing GH to freeze

Using Revit 2021, I installed the new build and it’s causing my grasshopper to freeze intermittently. GH will open and function for a time eventually the menu ceases to respond and I can’t close. I have to force quit Revit to restart. I’m uninstalling for now and reinstalling 1.5.8101.24584.

Hi Stephen, This is the first report of such behaviour.

Can you tell me a little more about your GH file? The same file works fine in 1.5?

Can you provide system info (type in command line) and any other Revit Addins you are currently running as well?

If its possible to zip and send the project files (gh and revit) they will remain confidential.

upload privately

It’s not file specific. I blank GH file will die eventually as well. I did notice that I get a warning about loading Enscape with 1.5 but I get no such warning with 1.6. I know Enscape has caused some issues with Revit and IFC in the past, could that be the culprit?

Also, another local user is having the same problems. We both have Revit Lookup, RevitPythonShell, PyRevit and Enscape loaded.

Thanks Stephen, Are you saying if the GH is left idle it will eventually freeze?

Enscape plugin conflict is typically on load but not going to rule it out. Any additional system info you can provide would be great. I’ve had 1.6.8 open for days without any issues, not sure what would cause this.

Lets see if the latest RC gives you the same problem 1.7.8

So I recreated it again with 1.6.8. I left it idle for about 3 minutes while I opened google chrome. When I return, I can zoom and pan. It highlights the menus and ribbon button but will not respond if any of the tabs or buttons are clicked. Grasshopper won’t close, or adjust size.

I’ll install 1.7.8 and see if the same continues to happen.

Same issue with 1.7.8.

Please post your systeminfo (command line) results here

In the Rhino command line please type in SystemInfo and post the results here. Thanks

Will do. I uninstalled Enscape… still having the issue. Reinstalled 1.6.8. It appears it happens when I click on any other program and attempt to resume in Grasshopper again. When I return to grasshopper it’s unresponsive. Give me a minute to reopen to post the systeminfo.

Thanks Stephen, Are you using the bullant? we should unload that via the plugin manager as well.

Here’s a link to a recent update on your video card. We recommend 4 gb video memory for every monitor, so you are a bit under powered in general.

nvidia download

Yeah, I use BullAnt to visualize steel shape extrusions. I uninstalled but it made no difference.

Also updated the graphics card driver, also no difference.

So the only solution I see at this time is not to advance from 1.5?

I also realized it’s not just Grasshopper but Rhino that also freezes. It acts almost like there’s an unseen box overriding any interaction with Rhino.

When I click start, I notice the “Blue Wheel of Revit” spin for 3 seconds before disappearing. Once Rhino freezes… whenever I click on it, the Revit icon in my taskbar flashes 6 times.

Here’s the image of the Task Manager

Again… that’s an empty new Revit file and only just opening Rhino.

Rhino runs fine on its own? Revit too? 2gb video is light for Revit as well, so running both on two monitors might be too much. Did previous version of RiR run ok?
Revit System Requirements

Can you provide the other users Rhino SystemInfo as well? Are all the Addins up to date? Running Revit without addins is another variable we can test.

@Japhy Thanks for your help. I started removing Revit Addins and found that it’s a conflict with a C# custom add-in from our firm. Been intending on killing it for a while, but this will accelerate that.
