It seems like most every time I close Rhino for Mac I get the spinning lollipop and have to “force quit” the app.

I can see the real time renderer is in the process of stopping. Does swiching out of rendered display mode before closing help?
Also, the current service release of Rhino is 15. I see you’re using 14.

Every version has done this lately. I updated this morning. I’ll try exiting render mode next time. That could be it.

FWIW, it is called Raytraced display mode. Not to be confused with the Rendered display mode, which does not use the realtime render engine Cycles.
@russell1 I also had a peak at the crashes you sent in (thank you for that!). This is a problem with the Metal drivers for your AMD GPU. I would suggest to go to Rhinoceros > Settings > Rhino Render, and select the CPU as your render device. That should make the crashing stop.
