Alright, thank you very much anyway.
I have tried restoring the deleted registry values in the meantime but they haven’t had any impact on Rhino. Do you guys think there’s anything else I could try?

Is there a System Restore point at or before the time this started failing? If so, you might want to try restoring your system to that point… You won’t lose any data files, only programs that were installed after the restore point date.
For some reason there is only one restore point available from yesterday evening… Perhaps another consequence of the creators update, the problems began before that sadly.

I’m sorry to be a pain, but I have just closed a file which I wanted to try reopening with VisualArq enabled to see if it still works and for some reason when I hit “no” to saving the file, the crash reporter popped up again, I wonder if this crash is associated with the others, perhaps it’s not an issue with Hardware acceleration after all.
Either way I sent the report to McNeel and I hope it sent through properly since it doesn’t seem to have left a dump file on my desktop. I had acceleration switched off, perhaps it’s just my computer playing up, but I thought I would make you aware of it just in case.
Best,
Sash
That is unfortunate… But just to be sure… System Restore sometime only shows points within a given time frame…There is an option that basically says “Show me all available points”… just making sure you’ve seen it and checked it.
If you have time, I would be very curious to see if the V6 WIP crashes as well… If so, then it means your OpenGL configuration is pretty messed up…even though V5 and V6 are both Rhino apps, they initialize, use and manage OpenGL quite differently…but I suspect it too will fail if your underlying OpenGL sub-system has somehow gotten messed up, but it just might be different enough that things work… Do you have any other programs that you know use OpenGL ? Do they work?
Hi Jeff,
I don’t seem to have that option, my only alternative is to reset windows completely, and given my luck over the last week I would like to leave that as the last possible resort since I cannot afford to lose my work and programs before submissions.
Rhino 6 crashes as well, same behaviour, it doesn’t even give it enough time for the splash screen to disappear before it crashes.
I have used the latest version of Photoshop today without any problems, AutoCAD 2015 seems to be working fine as well, However it seems that AutoCAD is using the integrated Intel Graphics instead of the nVidia card, I’ll see now if I can get it to use the correct one

I would also try to go the other way with Rhino…just to see… Configure Rhino to use the Intel GPU and see if it works. If it does, then it’s pretty clear that NVidia drivers are definitely the issue.
…and by “drivers” I don’t mean that the drivers are buggy…I only mean that something has somehow messed up their configuration on your system. Why a clean install doesn’t fix things, is a bit of a mystery…Still trying to come up with ideas for you…
Okay so it doesn’t seem that I can actually force AutoCAD to use the nVidia card at all, not really sure how much time I want to spend trying either. Though it would be helpful for diagnostic purposes.
When I switched Rhino to the integrated graphics through the nVidia control panel it seems to be working, it’s sluggish, but it works better than no acceleration. Thank you Jeff, I’m gonna try get in touch with nVidia tomorrow as well and see if they might be able to suggest something to do about the card. Very peculiar indeed

I have had trouble with the Geforce Experience stuff properly updating drivers. The best way to update is to go to the website and download the driver directly. Have you tried that?
Hello, yes I had tried that yesterday but it didn’t help, however -
I have finally managed to resolve it however after getting in touch with nVidia. it seems that this was most likely caused by improper removal of the driver before the installation of the new one, and for some reason no amount of clean installs was getting to the bottom of this. In case anybody else has this issue here is what solved it for me finally:
In the end I had to completely uninstall all nVidia related drivers and software from my computer using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) which is available from Guru3D: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
Here is a video explaining how to use it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ulQYC_HP9s
After that I downloaded the most up-to-date driver from nVidia’s website and installed it using a clean install again and now it seems the problems have gone away.
I hope this helps anyone who may encounter similar issues and thank you very much to everyone that commented and helped me with this issue, I owe you all big time!
Many, many, many thanks,
-Sash
Hi Sash - thanks for the update and the gory details - I’m sure this will turn out to be handy info to have.

Hey Pascal,
I’ve been having the exact same problem as mentioned, I’ve read through this post and made a clean install of Rhino 5, so only native plugins load, also my NVidia drivers are up to date 381.65, and I made sure to try the DPI and compatibility settings. after all this Rhino is still crashing every time I try to open. Any help?
I’m posting my Dump and crash report RhinoCrashDump.3dm (9.9 KB)
Hi Gerardo - from Sash’s explanation, above, the key would seem to be removing all of the NVidia drivers completely and then doing a clean install of the newest drivers. Did you go through that rigamarole?
