Rhino Consistently Not Responding

I had a computer recently that broke due to hardware issues but it ran Rhino perfectly. I got a new computer, the same one, and as I work on Rhino it takes a long time to load files and sometimes doesn’t even load them. I have to constantly restart Rhino and hope that it works when I open my files each time. Sometimes when I do get access to the files, shortly after making a few lines it stops responding again. Let me know what I can do

Also, this is my system info

Looks like your laptop has no functioning GPU being passed to Rhino. There is some form of problem here.

No graphics device is being used

Is there a way that I can fix that?

hi @Jake_Pulciani See if you can install clean drivers for the NVidia (download the latest, and when prompted for the install choose Custom, and choose clean install.
Another thing to try is this in your Graphics settings:

I’ve already tried that in my graphics settings by changing it to High performance. My driver says it is up to date as well.

If you go to Device Manager do you have any warnings on your GPU’s? Rhino is just reading the state of your machine, which in this case is “No graphics device is being used.”

No errors either. Strange

Would uninstalling and reinstalling Rhino do anything?

The most effective thing you can do with Rhino is to go to Add/Remove Programs>Modify>Repair the program.

This appears to be a Windows configuration issue. Its vaguely familiar to one a few months ago but at the moment i can’t recall what it was that the user did to resolve it (it didn’t involve Rhino, Rhino was just a symptom of something else going on)

did you try a clean install of the drivers?

I will troubleshoot with microsoft/ASUS support as well because it says it’s working fine but I’ve noticed other programs like Photoshop working much slower which I assume is related

I’m not sure how to do this

Download the latested driver again, run the installer, and when prompted for the install, you will see an option for a custom install, choose that and check the ‘clean install’ checkbox. This will make sure you remove the drivers and settings completely before installing.

I did a clean install but It still isn’t recognizing the driver in Rhino

Please let me know if you remember how they resolved it. Thank you

This sounds a little odd, but check if Blender also cannot find the GPU; as it also will pick up on this if you try to render using GPU compute in Blender Cycles.

If you are having the same problem, the GPU won’t show in Blender as a render device either, which may indicate a more Windows/Hardware type issue, not Rhino.

Is Blender a plugin like enscape or grasshopper?

Blender is a free and open source mesh modeling and animation application that you can download from Blender.org
