i updated my compute server on aws ec2 with your current update scripts and it stopped working. To test i installed a fresh compute server on a fresh ec2 but it fails with the error attached. Am i doing something wrong?

Could also attach the log file for step 1 of the bootstrap process? Are you trying to install for Rhino 7 or Rhino 8? Thanks.

Rhino 8!
I don’t think Rhino 8 actually got installed correctly (during step 1) which is why the Hops install failed during step 2. Hops is not really required but Rhino 8 is. Can you try downloading Rhino 8 on your VM. You can just use the latest Rhino 8 install and it should work (if you entered the correct auth code in step 1). Please try reinstalling Rhino 8 and then restarting your VM. After restarting, try starting Rhino and see if it gets a valid license. If it starts normally then I think you should be good to go.
