Second time this has happened to me on two very different types of files.
Rhino doesn’t crash but suddenly becomes really sluggish when rotating the perspective view and then starts repeating in the display whatever tasks I did, in a loop. Constantly redrawing/repeating what was on the screen, whatever I did like trying to save shows the same screen 5-6 times then Rhino finally finishes and closes but keeps showing this same repeating behavior even after closing Rhino like the save dialog keeps redrawing until going away. But when I exit Rhino and this behavior for rhino stops, Windows11 displays the same behavior making it impossible to shut down, I have to shut down by holding the off button as now everything has this weird repeating behavior.
Sorry no crash dump or ability to record this behavior since windows gets caught in this looping behavior. I only experienced this using Rhino other programs seem to be fine.
Files that this happened two files one was 8 meg and the other 188 meg
Hmm, this sounds somewhat similar to what happened to me and one or two other people about a year ago. For me it was so severe that I was unable to run Windows, the screen would simply flash about once per second and it was impossible to get it booted normally. Windows Explorer was continually starting and crashing. At that time I assumed it was a Windows problem, and as my laptop was still on Windows 10, I bit the bullet, backed up my files and installed Win 11. Later I found out that it was the Rhino WIP that had caused the problem somehow and @Normand had actually figured a way to get out of the loop.
It sounds similar but a hard turn off the power of the computer cures it and when I turn my computer back on it’s ok but who knows?
It seems something to do with Rhino display because it always starts when I am rotating the perspective view, one time it happened after doing filleting then rotating the perspective view and this time after moving a terrain mesh then rotating the perspective view. Luckily on both occasions I was able to save the files though in that weird loop still.
I updated my nvidia driver maybe that’ll cure it but it wasn’t that old being from Dec 2025. I’m on Rhino V7 with no wip installed on this computer.
Thanks for your reply and link to that thread.
Also thanks for your ASCIIGridImporter script I’m doing some terrain models for architecture and that will help.
Happened to me again today earlier, but now nothing and I worked in Rhino all day.
Happened again and had to shut rhino down with power off, luckily I was able to save.
Twice in one day. I worked for about 5 hours without this happening. Rhino seems fine then all of a sudden this happens I tried shutting down programs too in task manager. Seems like either display or mouse issue. Sorry I don’t have more information but it’s really a bummer in all my years of using Rhino never had to worry but now it’s like walking on eggs.
Thanks for your reply my Wacom wasn’t connected to my computer when this happened.
Windows did this weird update and I have win 11 set to wait a week before install. I noticed today that now I have this whole extra menu in my start area under recommended now win11 has this “all” area which includes categories for programs as well. Argh like we need this stuff. Anyway I’m hoping it was this Win update that caused this, as of now I didn’t run into Rhino stalling and I used Rhino so far all day.
Ok happened to me again last night. But I was able to save the file. I don’t know if it’s windows running virus software or? Other than that Rhino runs great.
