Rhino BETA Feature: Icon redesign

Who uses edit point?

Would we talk about the “Curve from Object” that now is completely submerged by other tool in the bottom part?

…But I do like the new fillet icon.

I do occasionally. If you want the curve to go through a specific point then this might be the best way.

This is the Keyword! :stuck_out_tongue:

First level interface should be for “Used Often” tools. :flexed_biceps:
If you can access this same tool from the Toolbar (second level) why wasting space on the main toolbar where more used tool need space?

If I have to choose I prefer having “Curve from Object” in higher, more reachable, position, don’t you?

@wim / @vanessa do you know of a batch png replace function?

I made a tool to batch edit all/selected png’s and it would be fun to test them out with out having to replace 1300 icons manually…

Color adjustment:

Tint overlay:

I also see that a few icons have png’s in them, for some special effects, mainly cones and multicolored blends, do you know if these will be updated to full vector?

Monochrome:

@Holo, this tool looks amazing!

@CallumSykes, this is exactly what we would need to batch update custom icons and batch change their color to match or override default colors.

G

I regularly use edit points on both, curves and polysurfaces.

There is nothing currently. Rhino’s SVGs are all inside its assemblies.

If @Holo is able to share the tool, I’d be curious to know what you like, dislike about this method of replacement :slight_smile:

Looks good!

The tool wasn’t really ment to be published, but it is here: holoicons.lovable.app

You might get a warning from your browser about uploading 1300 files (if you use the “folder upload”) but it doesn’t upload anything, it just opens them in the browser locally. (The warning is out of my control since it is a browser warning) And it is very fast, about 2 sec for all icons.

Have fun and if you choose to drop 100 icons onto the splascreen then make sure you hit the blue rectangle (otherwise the browser will open them one by one in it’s own tab)

You can selecting them (Ctrl-LMB for multiple) and remove them from the edit, or download them. OR download all together as a zipped file.

Currently it DOES NOT edit embedded PNG’s in the SVG’s. I can implement that if you find the tool valuable.

We do need two things for this to be of use though: Mass replace in Rhino and a way to extract dark mode icons too. And have those uploaded too.

It’s really easy to mix those three buttons
2026-03-25 12_54_31-TabPanelDockBarFloatingForm()
From left to right:
-1 ToNurbs
-2 ToSubD
-3 SubDDisplayToggle flat/smoothed , i never use this as I use TAB key

The three icons are really lookalike, I currently mouseover and wait for the tooltip to pop to be sure to use the correct command.

The white arrows are barely noticeable, the direction “from here to there” of the third button is better.

Proposal: use the color palette!
2026-03-25 12_54_31-TabPanelDockBarFloatingForm 2
“From azure to blue” or simply “there is something blue in the icon” => “That’s the ToNurbs button!”
Similar with pink: “there is something pink in the icon” => “That’s the ToSubD button!”

I typically add a letter or a number to some icons to improve the readability. For example, I added 1 and 2 to “Sweep 1 rail” and “Sweep 2 rails”, respectively, long before the official numbering in later versions of the program. The same goes for “Match surface” (added “M” in the corner), “Blend surface” (added “B” in the corner), “Fillet surface to rail” (added “R” in the corner), “Edge surface” (added “1, 2, 3, 4” in the corners), “Patch” (added “P” in the corner) etc.

Yes! McNeel, please adopt this change request. It makes a lot more sense that what you have right now.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve logged both your suggestion here:
RH-94274 Update SubD icons
RH-94210 Update gray cubes and fillet & chamfer icons

Wim just told me about this feature in the WIP, so I post it here for others to find:

@CallumSykes shout out if you need some source code from the tool I made.

It’s been a while, but also mentioned it up here (along with a few more points that might deserve being re-reiterated):

Hi @marika_almgren

It seems that the Fillet icons have been changed in the latest WIP version.

Could you adjust their size to match the Bevel Mesh icon?

Thanks

Yeah, the legendary useless _Smash command icon!

Last week, my trainees asked me questions about flattening and I showed them some commands. They had a good laugh when I showed them the ‘unfortunate cat’ icon. It apparently disappeared with Rhino 8.
@philCadlantique

Logged it here RH-94720

For those of you that miss the cat, here’s an svg version of it.
One in v8 colors and one in v9 colors + dark mode versions of both.

Thanks, Marika!

By the way, while increasing the size of the “Fillet” icon, its outline of the blue area must be slightly adjusted. Currently, those vectors are not parallel to each other. Also, the arcs of the fillet are not following the same shape.
