Rhino BETA Feature: Cursor Crosshairs

I set the crosshair length to 500 pixels but I think in a perspective view this looks wrong.

The screenshot is a screenshot of a screenshot so I was able to draw the second circle around the first center snap. The black curve is a circle too and the white crosshair would need to be scaled in the cplane otherwise this hurts my eyes

@mary My preference is the crosshairs are always vertical and horizontal on the screen, not parallel to the Cplane u and v axes. The current small cross with a hole icon works this way.

Sometimes I’m working in Perspective view and need to select a location on a photo-textured surface. I need the crosshairs to remain vertical and horizontal as I rotate the view.

a little or adjustable dot would be my preferred crosshair. if we could even make our own?

@mary I using using cursor crosshairs today, working with photo textured meshes placing points and making measurements. Several times while in the perspective viewport it would have been very helpful for the crosshairs to remain horizontal and vertical on the screen, as if fixed to the camera, rather than aligned with the Cplane.

@martinsiegrist This size of strength variable is being upgraded and moved to a slider soon on an Options page real soon! Please test when it is available in its new form.

@davidcockey Got it logged:
RH-96147/Crosshair-Parallel-to-View

@geemix I will get this logged and you can watch the progress.
But just being realistic here, you may not see it for Rhino 9 WIP.
Because it has to be done on Windows and Mac, and knowing this is difficult this is do on the Mac, it will likely need to be hammered out after this WIP is shipping.

Thanks again for testing.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Fugier

thank you, let me know when there is a tracker to follow!

Could this YT item be made visible?

RH-96147
It should be public now, @davidcockey.
Give it a try.

Thanks,
Mary Ann Fugier

@mary This is what I see when I click on the link:

One more check box, please try again.

Success! Thanks.

This will be available as an advanced setting in the next WIP. The issue is still open because we are trying to figure out how to add this to the options pages

Hi @geemix,
I logged your wish: RH-96255/Custom-Crosshair-Wish

Is there an application that you use that has this feature?
AutoCAD does not as far as I can see.

Because of cross platform support (Mac and Windows) this is difficult, if it can be done at all.
You will not see this in the current WIP for sure, but maybe it will be discussed for a future Rhino.

Thanks,
Mary Ann Fugier

thank you, small/minimalist UI is less obtrusive that’s all, having a little expandable dot would be just very neat. the link does not show its locked?

there seems to be some bug with the new options though, currently the new option Rhino.Options.Appearance.ShowCursorWhenCrosshairsVisible does have some hick ups. it only works on point and mid snaps so far but there the snaps tooltips stop working. for all other tested conditions the cursor still shows.

Hi Geemix -

That should be open now.

I’ve put this on the list as RH-96279 Crosshairs: New Default, No Snap Info

Extraordinary, “A Masterpiece”

Amazing, “A Masterpiece”
I’m really glad that the Rhino team took my suggestions into account.

I’ll have to wait a bit because I’ve already used up my Rhino budget on Rhino 8.

Thank to Mary Ann Fugier, Brian Gillespie & Steve Baer and the Rhino Team!!!

RH-96279 is fixed in Rhino BETA

Hi Brian and Mary Ann,

It would be great if this improvement were included in one of the new releases of Rhino 8.

Dan replied to me in another chat that it’s very difficult to implement this in Rhino 8… I’ll have to wait a while…
