Rhino 9 is super slow, for example, I am adding a texture and when I select the part to add the texture the pizza turns for at least a minute or more before I can continue. Also, when right clicking on the mouse to change the view, shaded or rendered te same thing. Sometimes just moving the mouse across the screen without selecting anything the same thing happens. Very difficult to work.
Hi Joe,
Please try the following:
- Run TestTrace and enable tracing
- Do the actions that you are describing that cause Rhino to hang for a little bit
- Run TestTrace again and choose save to save a trace file
Please send me this file and I’ll see if there is any information about what is causing the hang.
Thanks,
-Steve
Hello Steve,
Where might TestTrace be found? I have looked everywhere. Just to describe the situation, I was looking for TT in all the places where I thought it might be while my drawing was on the screen in the shaded mode and without any intervention on my part I moved the cursor to select a category in the menu bar, the pizza began to turn for about 1-2 minutes before I could select a category. This was not a problem in R8.
Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe -
Test commands need to be typed completely into the command line.
-wim
Hello Wim,
I did that but nothing appeared.
Joe
Where did you get Rhino 9??
From McNeel
I downloaded Rhino 9 from the official website.
Hi Joe -
Please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste its output here.
-wim
Type TestTrace on the command line and hit enter. You should then be presented with the following UI
Check the
Enabled checkbox and click on Done
Work on Rhino for a little bit and make sure to try and repeat the cases where you experience “hangs”.
Then run TestTrace again and this time click on the Save button. Save a a file and then send it to me.
Thanks
Hello Steve,
Here is a TestTrace.

Hi Joe,
Unfortunately I’m not seeing anything in the trace file that helps point to the cause of the slowdown. It doesn’t hurt to try this again and run Rhino for a few minutes before saving the trace file. Also systeminfo as Wim requested may help us see if there is something else to try.
Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience,
-Steve
Hi Steve,
I will try again. I did pretty much that but I’ll do it again with the system info. I did send it yesterday though. I don’t understand why there is no problem with R8 but there is with R9?
Thanks
Joe
@Joe_Neill - make sure to get this week’s WIP release. I know of at least one “slowdown” that was fixed.
– Dale
Thanks, but that doesn’t fix my problem. I did the update and was about to add a texture to my drawing and when I clicked on my choice the ball started turning. It stops after about two minutes. Very frustrating.
Joe
hi @Joe_Neill it would be really helpful if you could send us a model that shows the issue. I understand that the model you tried to send earlier was too big. How big is it? Maybe sending it zipped through wetransfer is an option? Do you see the beachball behavior with a smaller file too or is it file specific?
Rhino 9 is in WIP stage, and things like these can happen. We cannot answer why without reproducing the issue you are having.
OK, I was going to try that. The file size is 4.6 G.
I just sent you by Wetransfer a version that was saved small. I addressed it to you, Brian and Steve since all three of you have advised me. If it is not sufficient I will send the untouched by Wetransfer. I do not have the subscription to allow for big files but I will do the necessary if need be.
Joe
@Joe_Neill - you can always sent big files to McNeel using this link:

I just saw this, thanks.
