Hi, testing out Rhino 9 to see if display is working better now.
@jeff
1- Groundplane shadows when object is far from origin flickers (Too low tolerance, so it moves around for every frame)
2- Clippingplane works nice and smooth but view becomes VERY sluggy when it is on:
80fps with it off, 4 fps with it on… That’s a 20x difference.
Strange thing is that moving the clippingplane up and down is fast, so there is a bug with how the clipping geometry is handled, as if it is recalculated for every frame or something. Probably an easy fix. This applies to both testmaxspeed and normal view movement.
(Here objects are close to origin, but the buildings are linked blocks that are moved to origin, so content is far from origin… not that it should matter, but might be important for bugtracking)
3- Hiding, selecting and moving of elements are snappy. Nice!
4- Near clipping seems nicely improved
5- Overall speed seems faster and view manipulation is fast.
6- Antialiasing seems great.
7- Something is wonky with the new thickness and transparent materials. This is a SubD model (clen, should be no artifacts)
Extracting the render meshes cleans up the initial pass nicely, but the second pass (when passing through two objects) are still wonky.
Refraction and downgrading when view is manipulated works great!
8- Adjusting HDRI environment Intensity is NOT live action, so I have to release the slider to see the effect. Please improve this as tuning lights need to be realtime.
9- Curve and hatch AA seems to work better than ever, nice clean lines and great curves, a pleasure for the eyes.
10- Curve redraw is slower than in Rhino 7.
9.4fps vs 12.3 fps.
Perspective view, TestMaxSpeed:
178 block instances, 2 points, 10709 curves, 1 picture surface, 18 Leaders, 107 linear dimensions, 369 texts, 2305 hatches added to selection.
That’s what I had time for now ![]()
