Rhino 8 slow interface

Hi!

New Rhino 8 is much faster in 3D view (except ghosted where regularly crashes) but the interface is very slow. For example, typing the name of a layer in the search field takes 3-5 seconds to work. Snap options are also very slow (1-2 seconds). I have a fast i9 computer with 64Gb, SSD, new graphics card with the latest drivers. Can I do something regarding the slow interface or it is a bug that will be solved?

Thanks!

Igor

hello Igor,

this is not the normal/expected behavior,
let’s start with running _SystemInfo in Rhino and post back the results.

Hello Igor,
I think i face the same problem with Rhino 8 . A massive delay when enable or disable or just ticking the modeling aids (filter, osnap, gumball etc,).
Is it possible to solve this?
Thanks in advance
Panagiotis

Hi Igor -

I’m not seeing any crash reports from you. Does the reporter pop up when Rhino crashes?

I’ve put this on the list as RH-79843 Layer: Slow search box

Could you provide more details about this? Is this something that I could try in a new file with just a simple box or is this file-specific?

Hi Panagiotis - Please run the Rhino SystemInfo and copy-paste the result here.

Does that also happen in a new file from a factory-default template with no objects in it?
-wim

Hello Wim
Thanks for the reply,
Usually happens in files with objects in it (for example in a file 100MB), not in empty files.
When tick for instance the end osnap the tick icon appears in the box after 1 second. As you can realise its impossible for me to work properly.
I send you the System info

@Panagiotis.M can you verify if it works any better when the layer panel is not visible?

A bug regarding this was fixed recently RH-79587 Layer: Layers panel visible slows down OSnap checkboxes

@Gijs Indeed !!! when i hide the layer panel there is no delay!!!
But obviously i need the layers open …
This it will be fixed in the next update ?

here is the most recent in house RC that should contain a fix for it

@Gijs It seems works properly!!!
Thanks a lot for your Help!!!

Thanks for help!

@igor.gojnik Does that build solve the layer search delay you reported as well?

No, unfortunately!

I still have a problem with a very slow layer search. I have more than 100 layers in the file, but this is the case when you need a layer search.

Igor

I think I need a sample file that shows this behavior. Pls upload it here
I made a test file with 1300 layers and search is still snappy. I do see a delay when all layers start with the same name, e.g. layer_###, and then typing layer will be slow.
