Rhino 8 - Print doesn't remember last used location

@Trav , another things which rhino should remember is Print Quality Setting for Image File

Now it switches to Draft Quality after each print.

Ahh yes, I see. It appears the main print resolution is contributing to the restoring of the last state issue. I can see some room for improvements here.

Is there a way to set the default file location to use the same directory as the rhino file? Seems everyone want’s it to remember the last location, but for me I prefer the way it used to be.

Hi @Brian_Tompkins ,

I did actually add a hidden command to toggle this ability for PDF printing. TestSavePdfTo3dmPath might do what you’re looking for. Set its command option to On to toggle this behavior active.

Hi Travis - this is amazing! Worked perfectly, first time. Wish it was an official setting / command. Hopfully it is not removed on the next update. My only complaint now, regarding how the print to PDF function on Rhino 8 behaves compared to Rhino 7, is the default PDF name. It always defaults to “Page 1.pdf” whereas the previous behavior defaulted to the Rhino file name, which works great in my use-case, and for many others.

That’s good news! I’m glad that works for you. I’ve just pushed a small change to 8 that will show up in a service release that will default the single layout print to use the files name if the Test command is enabled. https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-86690

@Trav What stars need to align for the test command to be made a regular, documented command and/or made an “Advanced” option?

@davidcockey it really just boils down to figuring out the right place for the option to live in the user interface. There was a request during 8 wip for the functionality and I implemented it. The change was not well received by the user base. So verses just removing the changes, I tossed them behind a test command toggle until I could better understand how to satisfy both camps. I’m all for exposing this option somewhere.

The image folder I specify for a slider animation in Grasshopper is the last remembered folder when opening the next file in Grasshopper. This is messed up and useless.

For slider animations, I would want to spec a child folder of my image drive.

For Grasshopper, I think one option would be to go to the directory of the current Rhino file and if that does not exist, a user set default folder.

That ones outside of the scope of this conversation but might be something that @andyopayne might be able to help with?

Ok, I’ll create a separate topic and link to this one
