Regularly Rhino 8 freezes up for about second or more while the properties panel is open during modeling.
Just creating a box and exploding it can cause a short hiccup.
It’s doesn’t occur while having the layers panel open.

can you please post the result from running the systeminfo command in Rhino?

ok, that all looks sorted- can you please go to help>check for updates in Rhino and see if there is a service release available for you?
Hi Kyle,
There is no Service Release available, only a Service Release Candidate.
give that a go please and let us know if it changes your issue.
I have installed release candidate 8.3.23360.13001. The issue is still there.
and if you close just the properties panel (but keep others open) does the problem go away?
we have seen issues with environment panel and materials, but not properties.
I’d be curious if you closed all panels and opened them one at a time if you could isolate exactly which one is causing the issue. Often it’s easy to blame one, when it’s actually another.
IIRC on the Mac side at least, some people were reporting slowdowns (but not crashes) with Properties open and visible.
Do you mean removing the Properties panel from the right sidebar? For me this issue of freezes already seem to disappear when I have the Layers panel open instead of the Properties panel.
I will do some testing while having other panels open.
Often it’s easy to blame one, when it’s actually another.
Or maybe it’s more than just one panel.
So far I’m not even seeing a hesitation.
We need more details to try to duplicate the problem.
It can already happen on a new file with only one Rhino instance window open after a fresh reboot.
Just to create a box maybe a second one explode it and it could already occur. But it’s occurs randomly. You would notice by rotating around your object, the screen freezes and all of the sudden you are somewhere else, Rhino still records the mouse movement during the freeze.
Are you files on your local SSD or in a shared location?
Local SSD and for what it’s worth it happens on an unsaved file.
Hi Niels -
From your description, it sounds like this was reported as RH-75091 Display flickers intermittently for a split second
That issue is currently on the “Needs testing” list for 8.4.

@Niels
1- What is your mouse device model?
(looking for the pooling rate hz , you can either test it online like here )
2- Are you using a 3dconnexion mouse? If so, does it still freeze if you unplug it?
Sounds like my problem indeed, although I don’t experience it as a flicker. I will see if I can give 8.4 a try.
Could this somehow be related to this other bug I am experiencing? Default keyboard shortcuts start typing a command (bug?)
The mouse is a Logitech Pro Superlight, with a measured polling rate of 1140 hz max, 970 hz average.
Display runs at 144hz.
I had this issue with Rhino 8 opening rhino render properties from the render tab. Most of the time it would appear blank until I clicked a different property tab, but sometimes it crashed.
@stevebaer another “gaming” setup.
@Niels in past i had some luck by decreasing the polling rate from the mouse software and/or by temporary removing 3dconnexion usb (not a solution, i know…).
Never had a monitor over 60Hz, you could try decreasing that refresh rate too…
Edit: try also toggling on/off the advanced option “Rhino.Options.Appearance.ShowStatusbar” , and see if it make a difference.
If you manage to make some tests and pin-point when the problem stop occurring, it would probably be an useful data for devs…
The “standard”, or better, the “mode”(statistics) would be a 60Hz screen, a 125Hz mouse… And not having a 3d mouse at all.
You are somewhat away from that.
Please report your experience.
I plan to buy a 144Hz screen too
