Rhino 8 - Dynamic section view (applies for Rhino 8 Windows too)

Hello,

I have a design I like to apply section view per layer on. The design has various subcomponents and each assigned to a separate layer. I have selected cross section per layer.

Section 0 is top lid of the design, section 2 is a plastic support part, section 3 is a circuit board and so on.

I have successfully configured these section view and by moving them I can peel of various parts of the design and reveal details to be worked on. It is one problem though - when I successfully peel of the top layer (witch is a polysurface) and start to peel the second layer - the first layer section cut is going off and the top part then obscure the view when trying to position the second section view.

Unfortunately, I cannot share the design and I have made a dummy test to try to replicate the problem. First, I could not replicate the problem by making a test on simple boxes. The section view worked as expected. But adding a polyline some how trigged the unwanted behaviour. When the polysurface was deleted, the problem stayed the same.

The two images below try to explain the problem.

I like to add that the initial design file (the one I cannot share) was first processed (step import) in Rhino 8 for Win 10 then closed and reopened on my Mac.

Any one else that has observed this behaviour? It could be that I have missed a setting or two and that this could solve the problem.

Hello- what is the actual command or action in Rhino?

-Pascal

Hi,

The sections were created with “_ClippingSections” and the setup per section was done using the properties tab.

Hi Bjorn - what I mean is, what is " I successfully peel of the top layer"? what are you doing?

-Pascal

Hi Pascal - I drag the section in the “top” windows by using the arrow on the section gumbal ( I click on the section to select it then I use the arrow to move the section).

-Bjørn

Ahh, ok - I get it now, thanks.

I am able to reproduce the incorrect sectioning when a brep is added but only inconsistently.
@bjornsh - does this file have a set up that would show the problems you are encountering?

TestLayerClipping.3dm (168.6 KB)

Hi Pascal,

The file ( [TestLayerClipping.3dm) shows the same behaviour and problem as I have experienced.
