Rhino 7 Evaluation non-responsive during save & autosave

I recently downloaded the evaluation for Rhino7 on a new computer (Surface book 2). I had some success for the first few days of opening older files created in Rhino5, adding, editing, saving, etc.

After getting my new computer up to date with windows update, Rhino7 eval. will open similar files made in Rhino 5 but will become non-responsive when I try to save/save-as or if it auto-saves. I have successfully reopened the files that previously worked (prior to windows updating) and I was able to re-save/save-as those files in Rhino7 without this non-responsive problem.

I have successfully updating the additional gpu drivers but this did not help. One consitant thing is that there is a .3dm_tmp file created when attempting to save-as or auto-save.

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi Thomas - by this do you mean that it is non-responsive while the save takes place and this takes longer than it used to, or does it become non responsive, period, and you need to close it from Windows’ Task Manager?

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,

Kind of. Within seconds of manually or auto-saving the blue circle cursor icon appears and once I move or click the Rhino-window fades out and the title bar posts “(Not Responding)”. It is not freezing my mouse cursor as I can click the exit button and windows will pop-up the message “Do you want to exit now or wait for the program to respond?” If I click the close program it files a report to windows/microsoft and closes.

I have found a work around in the mean-time; I’m able to export the Rhino 5 file (opened in Rhino 7) as a Rhino 7 file. When I open that exported Rhino 7 file I can now save without issue. Sounds like a legacy issue?

Hi Thomas - what plug-ins are you running on V5? Can you please run SystemInfo in V7 and post the results?

-Pascal

Hi @thomas8,

Are you saving to Dropbox or some other cloud-drive service?

– Dale

Hi Pascal,

I’m not sure; unfortunately most of those files were created on a different company computer which belonged to my old job. I created and retained a few personal designs and those are the ones I was having trouble with after getting the Rhino 7 Evaluation on this Surafce Book 2.

Here is my system info report from Rhino 7 (new, blank file)

Hi Dale,

No, I’m saving locally to my computers hard drive.

So, the deterioration corresponds to a Windows update, do I have that right? Before the update, the same files worked OK?

-Pascal

Yes, that’s seems to be the case.
