Rhino 6: Settings continuously reverted back to default

No luck.
Didn’t do a difference… ;S

I saw that on my Rhino then deleted these file and back to run rhino .it’s working fine .the rhino made the other correct $$MRU_Tool… files.

That’s good to know… but weird and a bit sad that it doesn’t solve anything for me ;S

Here is the test
image

I can make the MRU toolbar appear, BUT upon restart of Rhino, it dissappears again…
All other settings are reverted directly upon pushing “ok” in properties

For those in doubt of the the current problem:

Did you try unisntall and install of rhino v6 with account setting to local user?or this machine or similar, and not use the rhino online account?

Dunno if it’d help, but I recently had problem
of not being able to locate materials, and environments and templates, but reinstalling with the above seemed to fix it up…

But it’s MS’s fault anyway…

I saw your post yesterday
I believe i have installed it with settings for local user…
But oh well… trying to reinstall one more time wouldn’t hurt i guess…

There was this link which might be something to try, but I’d wait for any mcneel guys before giving it a try…

https://wiki.mcneel.com/rhino/5/uninstall

SADLY… no luck ;S

Settings are stored in an xml file and are separate from the rui toolbar files that you have been getting advice on.

Open file explorer and go to
C:\Users\brage\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\6.0\settings

Does a settings_Scheme_Default.xml file exist in this location?
If you right click on the file and select properties, is it set to read only?

Hey Steve!
settings-Scheme__Default.xml does exist in the folder and it is NOT set to read only.
As administrator user I’ve also checked that I’ve got full access to it.

If you change a setting like you showed in your video, does the date modified value for the file update?

Yes, it does.

Let’s try this to see if we get any clue as to what is happening;
Run the RunPythonScript command in Rhino and select the ExceptionReport.py file attached.
Then go to the options dialog and try changing the colors like you showed in your video. If we’re lucky a dialog will pop up with information about what went wrong. Thanks for your patience

.ExceptionReport.py (156 Bytes)

Hey Steve!
Sorry for the late reply.
I’ve followed your instructions, but it seems we’re not so lucky…
No dialog popped up, and the problem is still the same. ;S

It was worth a try; thanks for testing. It sounds like Andy is going to try and work with you next week to see if he can determine what is happening,

Indeed it was
But yeah, im going to cross my fingers for when Andy will have a go at this.
Hopefully it’s some absurd small thing that is easy to fix.

Finally!
It’s working
(If I only had the ability to reset my evaluation countdown, I would be exhilarated!)

I recently started to notice that my windows start/search -bar didn’t work…
(nothing popped up when searching for files etc.)
So to fix this, I deleted and rebuilt the index… and now it’s suddenly working again!
(I also want to point out that the version installed, when things started working, was: “6.2.18038.4101” )

Regarding the Index reset, these were the final steps that I tested:

  1. Indexing options
  2. Select “Advanced”
  3. Delete and Rebuild

Give it a few minutes (as the library needs to rebuild)
Maybe even a reboot would be a good idea…

Hope this can be of help for anyone else who are having similar issues!

You probably meant to write “and now is suddenly working again”…
