I have changed grid settings that show ok when I exit program they defult back to origional

Grid settings are not global program options, they are file properties; new files’ grid settings come from the template file you use. If you want the same grid properties each time you open Rhino, open your usual template file, modify the grid settings as you like and then save it back as a template.
