Rhino 6 locking up

i’m seeing this for the first time. i’m using a new computer 7730 / Nvidia Quadro P3200 w/6GB GDDR5, with rhino 6. it locked up three times so far today, it locks up for about a minute. i have the latest drivers for the nvidea card and all the latest and greatest everything else.

Hi @anajob, can you please post the results of the Rhino commard _SystemInfo?

Yeah I just updated the latest patch and started freezing, I just renamed one of my layers and freezed for 20 seconds or so… I tried restarting my laptop didnt work and i just bought this set 1 month ago.

Is this on a complex file, or does it happen already in a fresh file?

Anyway, since this is a new machine it probably has had lots of updates applied in succession.

The Intel download center shows a bit newer driver available (Support for Intel® Graphics). Although I think your Intel GPU driver should be recent enough it is our experience that sometimes a complete clean driver install is necessary to ensure proper functioning of the driver.

While you are at it, probably a good moment to do a clean driver install also for the NVidia GPU.

Here is a good writeup from @jeff on how to ensure a clean install of your GPU drivers

Hi,

How do I get this from rhino or do you mean information from the computer ?

W

Thanks,

Hi - from Rhino, yes. Use the Rhino SystemInfo command.

Thanks for all of this,

I have the latest video driver . the file is not too big but maybe there’s something about it that made it lock up. Maybe it has cleared itself too. These computers are a moving target these days and it’s not getting easier.

Update the driver for your Intel GPU, drivers from at least before October 2018 would lock up regularly.

Hi thanks, I’ll look into that up date but I never use this computer on the battery and I think that driver is for the battery right ?

Hello - you should probably update anyway - also you can force ‘high performance’ someplace in the control panel, possibly in the NVidia ones - that will make the machine use the Nvidia card only.

-Pascal

The _SystemInfo output says your Intel GPU is the primary device. This means that it is used for drawing, even though the main grunt of the work is done on the Quadro P3200, it being the primary OpenGL device. Since the Intel is being used as the primary (display) device it affects how well things work. Therefor an update of the driver for the Intel GPU is warranted.

Hi thanks, in the uninstall programs the intel drivers were last installed on 2/21/2019. I’m thinking this is the latest driver but maybe I should check.
