Rhino 6 crashes almost immediately after opening

I just upgraded to Rhino 6. Whenever I try to open a model, the display freezes shortly after I start orbiting around. Then the display goes black or I get a spinning wheel and my computer freezes, and I have to restart. I didn’t have this issue with Rhino 5.

I tried opening in Safe Mode, and it doesn’t seem to be freezing or crashing, but it is extremely laggy when I orbit around.

Here’s my system info:

Your video driver is very old, try updating that first… the onboard video unit is pretty weak though, so I wouldn’t expect stellar results, but hopefully that will stop the crashing.

Thanks for the reply. I updated the video driver, but it still crashed immediately.

Any other ideas?

Try starting Rhino V6 in Safe Mode.
This blocks OpenGL and plug-ins like Vray.

Does Rhino run without crashing in safe mode?
Safe mode is Not a fix, it’s a first step in a troubleshooting process.

Didn’t catch the V-Ray plugin in your list at first. You might try disabling that first, 90% chance that is the culprit. Is the V-Ray updated to the latest version?

When I open in safe mode, it doesn’t seem to crash. But everything moves extremely slow, to the point of being unusable.

As I said in my message three days ago, Safe mode is not a fix. It’s the first step in a troubleshooting process.

Since Rhino does Not crash in safe mode, that means the crash is either a bug in your display drivers or with a plug-in.

Here’s an updated display driver from mid January:

See if that works better.

An Intel 6100 is a very old and under powered display adapter.
It’s problaby time to consider a new system that meets Rhino’s System Requirements.
