The size and color of the control points is not adjustable. Open curves have the biggest control points. Close curves have smaller control points. Surfaces have the smallest control points.
The only way to control the width of selected edges is to set the width of all curves. It would be convenient to make the selected edges wider than normal curves.
Default gumball menu ball size is zero, so the menu ball is invisible.
