Rhino 5 is buggy and often unresponsive

Is there any recent update for the 64bit version to prevent that?

  • help → check for update
  • (rhino 5 ? lastes version is 8.20)
  • own a legal licence.
  • post your system info
  • start rhino in safe mode / without plugins. → safemode
  • check your system and your graphic card driver to be uptodate

does this help ?

Here is our latest (2017) https://www.rhino3d.com/download/archive/rhino/5/latest/

Also ensure you are running on a machine that meets the system requirements

@Japhy Here another description of the problem. I have all System requirements as v8 runs without any issues:

Dear Rhino-team, I wanted to tell you that v5 behaves quite slow when switching between apps in Win 11. I need it because of an old plugin. Every time I get back to Rhino v5 from another program like Photoshop it will somekind minimze the window a bit and will take about 5-10 seconds to reload and will maximize and only then I am able to use Rhino. It happens all the time. Thank you

Hi Hannes,

This is most likely due to the changes in Windows 11 that Rhino 5 was not built for, for optimal performance you’ll want to run it on Windows 10.

The other possibility is that something else is going on in your environment that is causing these issues.

@Japhy no just win11, but thanks for clarifying.

Hi @hannesgrebin

I think Japhy gave good advice, first try running V5 without the plugin/s could be it’s looking for a license. Try safe mode and see if that does anything at least than you will know it’s not v5.

Otherwise you could reinstall V5 and use the windows version install when you install and install it for windows 7,8 or ten. I do it for my older programs and it seems to work well.
This is an option when you install a program in win 11 and other win versions.

What is your graphics info look like?

I’m not seeing that here: swapping back and forth between R5 and Photoshop 26 on Win 11 is instantaneous. Does the problem get worse as time passes?
