Downloaded Rhino 5.1 twice now… 186,918,825 bytes, seems okay, but when starting up the program it refuses to run with the message "“Rhinoceros” is damaged and can’t be opened."
This means the program was changed since the developer signed it. I was able to work around it with the command: sudo xattr -rc /Applications/Rhinoceros.app; but that is really not a safe thing to do.
I can’t reproduce it on my laptop either, but it happens every time on the mac pro. Seems to be some Gatekeeper quarantine silliness.
My work around works, if no one else has the problem, c’est la vie.
Note this is with the System Preferences -> Security & Privacy ->Allow Apps Downloaded From -> “Mac App Store and identified developers” setting.
