Just wanted to give credit where credit due and say that Rhino’s hatch is pretty awesome.
After 10+ years of AutoCAD (man I’m old!!!) it took a bit of adjusting (we’re talking minutes here not hours/days) to get used to Rhino’s system. But once you figure it out… It’s way more reliable than AutoCAD’s.
$2,000 per year subscription and the Hatch seems to get slightly better one year, way worse the next year… It makes you wonder where all that money goes.
Negative aside… Just wanted to say “great work”. The hatch in Rhino 3D is awesome!!
True, hatches became better in R8! They can display a border now, even with a linetype.
Before that it was necessary to keep the boundary curve (with history) for that effect.
What I miss here is
a separate color parameter for the border, incependent of the hatch/background color. That would make it pretty versatile as a graphic object (think Illustrator).
I haven’t even tried this out yet. R7 even has AutoCAD beat. The reason I posted was actually because of a battle I had with AutoCAD. I actually made some LISP to get around ACAD’s issues but occasionally I have to use the out-of-the-box features.
The worst issues with ACAD’s hatch is that it can change after the fact for no apparent reason. For me that equates to a pretty huge bug. Amazing what $2,000 per year gets you.
