Rh7 graphic card problems

Hello everybody,

I have been working with RH7 for a few days and I have run into several problems that seem related to the graphic card, problems that I did not encounter in my old version of RH4.

  • in general, navigation in the viewports seems jerky and slower (e.g. rotate the model, zoom in etc.)
  • lines as well as grid lines appear broken if not orthogonal in the view
  • the selection boxes do not appear under any circumstances, neither from right to left (dashed box), nor from left to right (continuous box). I tried changing Rhino’s advanced default settings assuming it was an opacity problem or something, no result. In rare cases, the boxes appear for a few fractions of a second during the selection (left mouse button pressed) and disappear immediately.
  • the render properties and materials windows open very slowly and during vertical scrolling there are problems displaying the options (jerky view with information appearing and disappearing). same problem in the panels
  • the object properties panel when closed would appear empty when reopened or something similar, but maybe this is a bug not dependent on the graphics card.

Any ideas?

I am attaching the rhino system information file

Hi @linear.project
Start by updating your Nvidia driver - it’s almost a year old, which is quite a lot in terms of graphics drivers. There should be one from late January, IIRC.
HTH, Jakob

Thanks Jakob, you’re right, i missed it.
However I have just installed the latest NVIDIA update and for the moment I can say that I have the same problems. :slightly_frowning_face:

Is it time to consider buying a newer GC (maybe 6 years “is quite a lot” in terms of graphic card…),
or is it logical to think about another cause (e.g. 2 screens)?

Hello - V7 does make a lot more use of the graphics card than V4 - I guess I would test with a single screen and see if that makes any difference.

-Pascal

Thanks Pascal
I have tried with one screen and i can see some difference for example with render properties panel, it is less jerky when scrolling but still have some visualization failures.

Also with a new empty model i have same issue with the selection box: i can see just a very imperceptible blue square with no border line. Maybe it is not about intensive use of GC but about compatibility…just trying

Look in Options:

Can you set useful colors there?

-Pascal

Yep, already tried. I can’t see colors on the viewport if i change them, i can’t see nothing. Only with default settings i can see a very light blue for the temporary selection square, but i have never seen stroke color in R7

Just for information I tried Rhino 7 on another older pc with a Quadro FX 1800 and the latest driver from 2016. In this case the navigation in the viewport with the same model was more fluid and at first use I did not encounter any problems. Any opinion?
