Requesting a change queue update

Say that you have a command which sets some user strings on the selected objects, and you now want your change queue to update so the new values can be read and reflected in your realtime display mode – is there an api for marking the objects as dirty, in the eyes of the change queue?

I figure it must exist and I have just not found it.

I thought it already did that, but checking Rhino 6 and Rhino 7 this seems not to be the case.
