Replacement for Github (due to the latest "CCP compliance/coverup")

Best replacement alternative to Github?

I want people to know that GitHub removed a repository containing early information, including screenshots of official data about the CCP-virus, which later has been removed from the Internet since it showed evidence of the mishandling of the pandemic by the CCP which also have detained people affiliated with the account or the gathering of its information.

So I immediately terminated my Github account. More on the background for this “CCP compliance” by Github can be found here (starting from the reporting on the Github breakdown):

So, where do I find a replacement for Github which isn’t obviously playing by the tunes of the CCP? Or do I have to run my own server for version control?

Edit: This post was flagged as somehow “offensive” but I couldn’t figure out why, so I’ll leave it without change, except for this added sentence.

I flagged this as being “inappropriate”, because it’s poorly sourced sensationalist click-bait (from The Epoch Times) that belongs on Twitter. Also the meta category is about Discourse/discussion forums.

That’s not a limitation compatible with the “about” post in Meta About the Meta Category

Although perhaps with out the questionable link/comments, the post could go under the "developer’ category.

My errand was of course about Version Control, and the source (NTD) sharing the fact (the reason for me leaving Github) that this particular account had been removed doesn’t change the fact that it has been removed. It has been removed, and anyone knowing anything about the CCP understands that there is a serious problem involved, a political problem, and almost certainly a human rights problem, as well as a free speech problem (although the details are not yet known about exactly how the account was shut down). Again, the reason why I left Github. I thought it made sense to say why I left Github.

Since this is not the place for political debates I would only like to point out one thing about the source. NTD is affiliated with Falun Gong, a religious group of about 70 million people (that’s the number being heard) which is severely persecuted in China, by the CCP. I am myself a professing Christian, and therefore I also know that millions and millions of Muslims (Uighures) and Christians are also severely persecuted by CCP.

My point is, all these millions of regular Chinese people are also sources from inside this propaganda controlled country, which in turn has it’s methods to influence what our “regular” media is reporting, and not reporting. So, whether these groups are questionable in their reporting and sources or not, may be debated (I’m not going to engage in that bit) it still is a fact that all these millions of persecuted regular Chinese people are also sources, eyewitnesses, from inside this propaganda controlled country. Which is why there’s an ENORMOUS problem that the account with such vital information is suddenly shut down. Which is why I left Github. My informed choice. But I’ll leave it at that.

Yes. Should be drawn with Nurbs.

I was referring to that exact description. Notably the “about” part here:

"Want to talk ABOUT the relative merits of Discourse, Newsgroups, NING, Facebook, Dinner and Drinks, and other forms of conversation? … "

It’s literally called Meta

Leaving religious affiliations/motivations aside:

So you’ll excuse me if I question whether or not the claims are accurate (leaving out the relevancy of posting it here on the forum, and the agenda you’re pushing by doing so). Again, maybe save this content for Twitter etc. Starting to get flashbacks to a certain Cernovich promoter, who sparked the shut-down of the old Grasshopper forum.

As I said, I have no such intent.

back on track: Do you have any suggestion about an alternative to Github?

// Rolf

Ah yes, sorry, I’ve previously used and quite liked both BitBucket and GitLab.

Thank you. I searched for a comparison between the two and found the latest and most extensive comparison to be this one. I think I can make a reasonable decision based on the info on this page (it leans towards Bitbucket) :

Again, thanks for the hint.
