Rendered viewport Groundplane shadows show through object and other probs

Hi,
1.In the attached file the groundplane’s shadow shows through the object in rendered mode.
2.I can’t get the tank treads to be dark I even tried a different material from the library. This is in standard rendered view. It shows in cycles raytraced view fine.

I exported this tank file out of Unreal and no textures were exported but it did create the slots for them, and I tried to assign a new texture to the tank treads, but nothing gets darker in rendered view.

I’m seeing weird texturing display problems, in some of my display modes textures disappear on models where in another almost identical mode they appear and disappear on different models. While all of textures appear in rendered mode. Yet when importing this file it displays worse in rendered mode.
Thanks for any help and for taking a look.

The mesh is a bit weird. Here goes for the main vehicle, but needs to be done for tracks too:

  1. _Copy, choose in place
  2. Rename the copy so you can differentiate from original, I chose to add unwrap_object to the end
  3. Select original object
  4. Run _RebuildMesh
  5. Go to object properties > texture mapping
  6. Select Custom Mapping (the duck icon)
  7. Select the copy mesh ([...]unwrap_object)
  8. Hide the copy

The rendered mode will look better. No weird white-ish objects. Below screenshot where man body is done, but the tracks haven’t been fixed yet.

Hi @nathanletwory,

Wow I did your suggested workaround earlier on another mesh that disappears in all but shaded view.

But then I ran into this weird problem. Unreal’s intense I have to learn it deeper. The tank is their Vigilante freeware and has LODs with it so I might have to drill down to get at the best mesh. I couldn’t get their textures to export. I’m bringing the tank into Rhino as an example to compare my Rhino model tank treads to theirs.

I’m seeing textures being lost in the materials list outside of this problem. The material is listed and shows an incorrect map which is black but opens in Photoshop. I think it’s a metallic map, but the correct map is still displayed on the object and displayed in the viewport though it’s not the map in the material.

I think rhino is losing or fogging texture mapping coordinates, as if Rhino just forgets and maybe that extends to viewport modes as well where I have another problem of textures on objects not displaying in one viewport mode but displays fine in another viewport mode with the same settings.

Thanks for your fast help, workarounds and advice.

To be sure I also logged a bug here: RH-68522 Shadow shows through model in Rendered mode

RH-68522 is fixed in Rhino 7 Service Release 18
