Rendered view custom material changes when you press OK

The above is what I’d like the material to look… ie, simulating a GRP gel coat hull which has a super polished reflection, but quite weak (which I’m not sure in Rhino is the “gloss finish” or the “reflectivity”, because dragging the sliders feel a bit inconsistent).

However, even though I got the look I want, immediately after when I press OK I get this:

It’s like either reflectivity/gloss snaps back to 100% and I don’t know why.

I guess I’m really after a “clear coat” slider like in Blender/Unreal and I’m not sure any of the sliders I’m seeing is that, so has anyone managed to decipher this UI and made some approximation of it?

Hi @eobet
I think the custom material is considered “legacy” by now, and you should use the PBR material instead. It has a clear coat layer, that you can turn on, and hopefully it’ll get you the effect you’re looking for.

Oh, it was hidden under detailed settings. Thanks!

EDIT: Nope, spoke too soon… why doesn’t the clear coat reflect the environment like a smooth base layer does?

I’ve cranked it to max here and all I get is slightly shinier edges.
