Render error on half the scene

This is a simple render of one planar rectangular surface and lots of planar circular surfaces.

For some reason it only renders half the image correctly, the left hand side is strange. It does the same if i rotate the surfaces 180degrees - i.e. its always the left hand side that is incorrect…

Is there a better way to render this sort of thing?

Hi Martyn -

Generally, having zero-thickness surfaces all at the same elevation is looking for trouble.
I’d simply move the planar rectangular surface somewhat lower.

In the end I cut all the circles out of the large planar rectangle and that worked but I see your point about having all the surfaces on the same plane!
