I sent a fair amount of time creating a custom view-port display mode, which I used for quick product renderings. With a recent upgrade to Windows 1803, a fresh install was required. I know (now) that display modes are store in the application of Rhino and not in any separate file. But if I had back-ups available, is there anything I could restore or replace that would allow me access, even temporarily, to retrieve a display mode and export it? Next time I will know to export and save it.
Hello - you can always export display modes from Options > View > Display modes to a text (*.ini) file. Is that what you mean? For that matter OptionsExport
will save all of those and other application settings as well.

@pascal- No, I didn’t know at the time how view-port modes were saved, so I didn’t export the view mode before a complete fresh install was done on my laptop. I’m wondering if there is anything that I could restore from a backup, to get the view-port mode back into my fresh Rhino install.
Hmmm - no, I don’t think so - if the modes don’t show up in your new installation, I think they’re gone…

If, for example, I restored my previous Program Files > Rhino 6 > System folder from my backup to my current install, would that get the custom view-port back or would it just mess things up?
Hello - yeah, I’d say that would mess things up…

Dang it! I guess this is an opportunity to “live and learn”…
That is the ‘right’ way to look at it. OptionsExport/OptionsImport
are your friends!

I’m encountering a similar problem, except that it happens on a regular basis… I’ll build a display mode, close Rhino, and at some point down the road (multiple days later, having restarted my PC several times), the names for all of my custom views* will change to ‘shaded’ and I’ll lose all customizations.
*Caveat: older custom display modes (created months or years ago) are preserved.
I realize I can export and re-import display modes, or export all options at once, but I’m hoping that there’s an easier solution.
Thanks for any help you can provide,
