R8 SR6 huge memory use with texture controls

Opened the new R8 release candidate (8.6.24093.11001), did nothing but fiddle with texture mapping controls, including multiplier, gain, saturation, gamma, rotation and hue shift, to test the responsiveness of those controls. They are laggy when first grabbing and also during adjustments, feels like it’s due to previewing in the texture window but can’t say. Checked the task manager: 2.4 GB RAM.

Baseline upon opening a blank file and doing nothing is around 450 MB.

What is going on? Is this normal?

Any ideas? Is this normal? 2 GB RAM to adjust sliders on one texture?
