Hi,
I’m currently trying to simulate a multilayered bamboo gridshell structure with slotted holes or generally speaking constrainted joints like demonstrated in the 1st image.
This gridshell structure will be built as an installation and I need a quantitive simulation that doesn’t need to be too precise. The undeformed grid will be tied to 4 pillars and tightened (I expect about 50-100kg per cable) - 2nd image.
The knod will be tightened after the deformation by rotating the tying tool, therefore I want to simulate the joints freedom within the constraint.
I modelled the connections as Lines and used the Beam component. Then i used PointOnCurve and RigidPointSet to simulate a bolts behavior (I guess that a slotted hole would kind of simulate the principal the attached bamboo detail)
For the tensioning cables I used “ConstantTension” with Strength in N, that might be an issue, I’m not sure.
Next I defined the bamboo splits as beams and used Youngs Modulus in Pa, Shear Modulus in Pa, tensioning force per cable in N, Area in m², weigth in N as units. However I probably have gotten some units wrong or just made other mistakes, because it won’t deform.
I previously used lower stats and it worked, but they were random and I want to calculate the beams utilization afterwards.
I’m thankful for every help!
Btw the bamboo material characteristics aren’t 100% precise but should be pretty realistic enough i guess (I’m not a civil engineer)
