Project to cplane curves not flat

I need to make a surface. I’ve the curves drawn and connected. Planar curves however does not produce a surface. I then project the curves to the cplane and try again - still no go. I run intersect to see if there’s a problem and indeed there are two curves apparently no intersecting. What I don’t understand here is why project to cplane didn’t solve the problem.

Use CrvEnd and CrvStart - select the resulting points and Zoom Selected in the Top view - you’ll see the problem.
