I wondered if there is a way to create progressive scaling like on the uploaded image. I created the comparison by hand.

Play around with the stretch command.
Also, cage edit with just a line as your cage is cool and offers more control.

CageEdit with a line as the control object, across the width of the pattern - ChangeDegree on the line to say 3 before using it as a CageEdit control, and move the resulting curve control points to scale.
