Problems with selection menu - Somehow reversed?

Hello forum.

I’ve had trouble with this problem for some time now. It resolved itself a week ago but now it’s come back somehow without updating anything.

Whenever I want to select something in my model (e.g. the white box on the screenshot), the selection menu is somehow reversed in order of nearest object? The object/block/whatever I want to select is almost almways the last selection on the selection dropdown menu.

It doesn’t matter how many objects are behind/in front of it then it will keep doing this.

Things I have tried:

  • I have tried creating a new file with the same assets, textures, etc. and moved it to 0,0,0 without luck.
  • Purging the file
  • Reinstalling Rhino
  • At one point I thought it was because I had Grasshopper open, because when I closed it then it seemed to fix the issue momentarily. But now I experience it without having grasshopper open as well.

Hi Marcus -

Please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste the result here.

Thanks for that SystemInfo.

Can you export a few (e.g. 4 or 5) of the objects that show up in the selection menu to a new file and then reproduce the behavior when you open that new file? If so, can you make sure to save that file with the viewport in the correct state and post that file here (or upload it if you don’t want to post it publicly)?

AI.

I’ve tried what you suggested without being able to reproduce the behavior for now. The project I’m working on consists of multiple projects combined into one. All of the seperate project files had the same selection bug, but seemed to stop for a while after I combined all the models/geometry from the different projects into a new file.

I’m not sure if the solution for now is just to make a new file once in a while and copying everything over to that new file, although that is quite bothersome since the project is quite large.

Side note: I was thinking of whether Enscape might have something to do with it the possible bug? I recall experiencing the bug more often during the end of the workday, when I’ve been working on the file for a long time? Rhino seems to get slower and slower the longer I work on a file when also using Enscape, maybe my PC has trouble selecting objects and just lists everything in front/behind where I click due to lack of memory or something? I’m just spitballing here.

Huh?

Hi Marcus -

Sure, no problem. We’d have to be able to reproduce the issue on one of our development machines to be able to know what goes on. At that point, no 3rd party plug-ins can be involved, so you’d have to make sure that you still can reproduce it reliably on your machine without any of those being enabled.
