Hi, I’m trying to output to PDF using VA Hidden display mode. I’m struggling getting a linked block to print with a different colour (for a shading out a neighbouring property).
If I include the external file as linked & embedded or linked + active, the VA elements will pick up the layer colours of the main file. If I link as referenced, the layer colours are picked up correctly from the linked file, however print output looks strange as the linked geometry prints in a sort of “x-ray” mode:
Just had another play and the printing problem appears with both active and referenced linked blocks. Only linked and embedded blocks print correctly (but with wrong colours).
Looking into this further, in my linked model I’ve tried to change default layers in VA options and move Walls, Walls-Structure Components etc into a sublayer, however when I insert the model as Linked & Embedded, the geometry gets moved to the default layer in the master file.
If there were a way to avoid behaviour this I think print colours would be applied correctly and Hidden display mode would print correctly.
Hi @mark10, you need to use the option “embedded and linked” blocks when the referenced file has VisualARQ geometry or when you need to print the model to vector output. The attributes of the external file will depend on how the geometry inside it has it assigned. If the geometry has the attributes By Parent, then you should be able to edit the attributes in the Host (Master) file. Otherwise you need to edit it in the original file.
Take into account that the layer settings in VisualARQ Options > Document Properties, won’t change the layer assignment of existing walls. So you need to change that manually. And this affects also to other attributes assignment to wall styles. Once the assignment of layers, attributes, etc is done in the linked file, just update the block in teh Master file (from Block Manager).
If this is not working for you, please send us the files involved (to visualarq@asuni.com).
