Hello again,
We have “show curve edit point” command, but we don’t have “show surface edit point command”.
Sometime I want the surface touches at some point, or a fixed curve shape , my old way is to draw a curve that meet at that point and do the surface again.
I discover that infact we can control the surface edit point, by the following steps:
have section curves of same style prepared
with history on, perform loft
show curve edit points
drag any edit points you want and the surface will follow
Maybe this command exist and i don’t know. I hope in the future there is command to show surface edit point for easier shape control. thanks
Additional info: From this method, I also discover that the surface edit points are at the position where iso of 2 directions intersects. We just cannot enable those " point" to control
Indeed, this used to be a major issue for me. I think I’m now remembering how nice T-splines were cause the points were on the “surface” per say.
I think subd’s are this way now. So maybe there would be a benefit for converting to subd’s in a workflow if you must have this interface while editing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a way to script or plugin something in Rhino though.
This is a very interesting recipe. Would be cool to see Grasshopper setups.
HBar allows direct editing of a surface or curve by selecting and moving an arbitray point on the surface or curve. It also allows direct changes to the shape using “handlebar” controls. HBar only changes a local area without adding control points. (Moving a curve edit point changes the entire curve and tends to introduce oscillations.)
Start HBar and click on the surface at or near the location to be edited.
To change the location of the handlebars click on the desired location.
To move a point on the surface click on the point, and then move the center point of the handlebars.
To contrain the movement to normal to the surface hold Alt while moving the cursor.
HBar can take a bit of practice to master, particularly when used with surfaces.
The question is about “edit points”, not “control points”, aka “control vertices” or “verts”. For more about “edit points”, also known as “Greville points”, in Rhino see Edit/Greville point explanation wanted
Hbar should be an awesome tool when you are able to click on “edit point” of surface. With my suggested way of using history it is possible. Can’t wait to try it, I am at outside now.
I was looking for a gif or video illustration per say.
All I see is a brief mention of it there.
You’d think that something this amazing would be demonstrated better in the help docs or even shown off more cause of how amazing this seems to be. But I guess it’s one of those Rhino hush hush things…
I feel like I stumbled on a powerful Rhino secret that hasn’t been exploited yet.
The possibilities of this tool are mind blowing, I can’t believe I haven’t used it hardly at all yet.
Would be cool if the help docs had a little video for it – on srfs.
