Points Off by default?

I almost never use control points because almost everything I do is strictly by the numbers, so I draw everything with specific measurements, and I have little need to modify something with a control point. From time to time the control points cause me a problem though, for example if I have a lot of geometry close together, and I want to move some, but not all, I will select everything, then use ctrl and drag a box to unselect what I don’t want, but sometimes I will unselect a control point, and then when I do the move, that one point stay behind completely deforming my object.

I’ve found I can eliminate this problem by turning off control points by right clicking this button:

But it only works for the current selection, as soon as I select something new, I get control points again. so, I find I am pushing that button constantly, like hundreds of times a day, to make sure I don’t inadvertently change my geometry with a control point.

So, is there some way to make Control Points OFF the default, and it I want them I’ll push the Control Points On button? That would be SO Helpful, but I can’t see where I can make points off the default… but it seems like there should be a way to make Points off the default, because if it wasn’t the default to have points off, they why would there need to be a Control points on button?? that button would serve no purpose, and its primary function is to turn points on. So, it seems like there must be a way to get into a mode where points are off when you make a selection, making that button useful for something.

There’s an option ‘Hide control points’…

It’s not my favorite default behavior either. Not sure when this changed.

there we go back to old school v5 :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

i use options → Advanced → search for “points” and set AutomaticPointsOn to False
it s shown bold because it not set to the default value. (which is True).

not sure how this setting is the same as above or differs…
@Gijs is this setting exposed to some UI / checkbox - identical with your mouse setting ?

I tell my students to do this setting in the first lesson.
They never miss this feature.

Yes it is the same setting. It can be useful to have it on, but I find it is counter productive in at least 50% of the cases.

Gets in the way sometimes to

@Gijs Thank you very much! I’m so glad it was just a simple setting, I was looking everywhere, it didn’t occur to me it would be in the mouse settings, but now that I know it’s there, it does make sense.

It’s SO much easier for me to work without them and in the extremely rare case I might want them, I can push the button and turn them on.
