To maximize a viewport, one has to make a window active, then double click the title or use a shortcut. It would be far better if viewports always activate by hovering the mouse, like it is when a command is active.
Furthermore i always use this maximize command so often that it should be adressible to the biggest button on the keyboard, the space bar. But it’s not possible.
Completing a command is three times redundant in Rhino. That’s why the spacebar is not available. It should be.
Hi Ron -
With the Rhino Options -> View -> Viewport properties -> Single-click maximize option turned on, you don’t need to make a viewport active and double-click. You need to hit the title, though.
With instant aliases, you could assign a single letter alias to the maximize command and maximize with a single mouse click anywhere in the viewport and a single keyboard letter.
That request is on the list as RH-83190 Spacebar to do something else

That doesn’t work while in a command, the letter goes to the command line.
Or do I miss something regarding instant aliases?
I have F12 for max/demax:
Hi Charles -
That’s a known limitation, yes.
→ RH-87951 Looks like the new Instant Aliases is not working with one time Osnaps, line Between etc..

Super quick with a single key bound to MaxViewport. But yes - Hover to activate would be very nice as an option to toggle on/off in settings.
This is a very bad idea, because it will bring lots of issues to most users. As soon as they try to reach some icons near the viewport labels, they will be punished with an accidental maximizing or minimizing the viewport.
Totally agree! Hover to activate would be a nightmare. @ftzuk like in your video, imagine reaching to the icons above perspective viewport title just to maximize perspective viewport instead - no, thank you.
The proposal from the link below was implemented in Rhino, because it relies on hovering over a set of small distant icons that are far away from any other toolbars, hence they are actually usable and don’t interfere with nearby icons.
My later proposal to show the Properties panel with a simple hovering was not (yet) implemented. Only the initial idea to activate it via clicking on the corresponding icons was accomplished so far.
yes I can see this being useful if there was the option there to turn on/off ![]()
