Pipe not smooth, resulting in saucer protrusions

No matter what radii I choose when I pipe the outer curve on this bangle, I end up with 4 saucer like protrusions in the same place. See attachment. Any ideas?cuff.3dm (9.0 MB)

Hi Kate - the path curve, the outer perimeter has some loops, or reversed control points -

here:

How did you make that curve?

A cheap way out is to chop out a section around the messy part, bridge across with a G2 BlendCrv

Then Join it all and pipe should work.

Hi Pascal, thanks so much for your guidance! I drew the curves flat then flowed to surface. The original curves were an arc that I blended with a line curve. Now let me play and figure it out based on your recommendations…

Hi Kate - can you please post the curves and surface used to get the flowed curve?

Hi Mehran, thank you! Did you do what Pascal advised or something else?

Hi yes

oops - this is the file Pascal - also is a G2 blend the same as Quick Blend Curve?cuff.3dm (84.3 KB)

Hi Pascal, thank you that worked with Quick Blend Curve…thank you!! I’m assuming this is the G2 Blend Curve you recommended…

Hi Kate - Yes, BlendCrv, I can reproduce the nasty mapping of the curve in flowing, I’ll see if we can make that better.

@Pascal thank you!!

@kate1 - this is not easily fixable directly, but FYI, you can help the situation a lot by doing the following:

  • Explode the original curve
  • Select all the parts and run Reparamterize > Automatic.
  • Join them back up
    Then do your Flow operation.
