Pillowy Skylight

Hello Everyone, I’m looking to make a curved skylight similar to the one seen in the image however when I go to loft this shape it comes out rough and not smooth, I need a smooth curve linking this rectangular opening to round skylight above. Wondering what the best path forward is to ensure that I get a smooth curved shape with consistent top and bottom boundary. Thanks!

Hard to understand what exactly you’re after without having the centre cross-section curves and a formal aesthetic concept for how the transition from the top of the bulge into the 90° corners shall look. Here’s one of several possible approaches - pull the CVs of a higher degree surface.

Thanks for the response yeah i believe that I’m going to have to add rails on each side of the rectangle. When using a simple loft like the geometry on the left that shape is not nearly soft enough for the effect that I’m going for.

Even if I sweep2 and select one of the rails as a sweep shape I get these awkward folds inside the shape.

You could up the degree of the surface to obtain more CPs, trim with an ellipse, and then pull the trim boundary planar with the surface’s CPs.
