Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a workflow I recently developed for a client who works with pergolas. The challenge was that although the products were very similar, every new variation (different length, width, height, or profile size) required hours of redrawing, recalculating, and creating new fabrication drawings.
Using Rhino + Grasshopper, I built a parametric system that allows:
-
Real-time control of length, width, and height
-
Automatic resizing of structural profiles
-
On-the-fly calculation of material quantities, weight, and costs
-
Automatic generation of fabrication drawings and PDFs
The result is a configurator: instead of repetitive manual work, the system adapts instantly and outputs both geometry and documentation. This not only speeds up design cycles but also minimizes errors and supports fabrication and logistics directly.
It was a nice example of how parametric design can turn a repetitive task into an efficient and scalable workflow.
