this is how autocad does it with the same pdf:
i am really starting to doubt rhino and its future.
there is not a single day i find out something does not work when i actually want to do something besides drawing curves. it is so fragile i am considering abandoning it at all. it is just too unreliable. i am super sad. also there is no vision no roadmap nothing. professional work requires professional software one can trust.
it would be funny if was not so overwhelming. nobody is perfect and every software has bugs but this feels systemic and ubiquitous.
-make2d is awful
-bounding box is off
-texts are terrible
-layers panel lag with many layers
-capsule frame is terrible with leader
-pdf import is just a mess
-vector print will never work with make2d technology in the background and is hopeless to expect that
-printing was terrible (now it is becoming acceptable)
-cant move gumball over text or block without invoking its editation
-many other issues
text editation crazyness.3dm (945.4 KB)
this is pdf successfully imported in autocad and then dwg opened in rhino. just try ctrl a select all and change the font to arial narrow and evertything goes bold which it should not.
actually rhino cant import that dwg properly because the font is arial narrow in dwg…
Import does seem to work much better under Rhino 6:
Rhino 7 fundamentally gives the same result as Rhino 8
Thanks for that example

it still looks too bad in R6.
Yes, fair enough.
But formatting is significantly better than Rhino 7/8.
I just wanted to show that this is
For what it’s worth: you don’t want to see what this looks like in Rhino 5
my problem is that they claim they have brought some feature but in reality it means the feature is there but is so inferior or full of errors.
good example is block management. one would expect that so called overhaul to look totally different and yet there is one chinese guy who did what they could not in 10 years. (new block tools plugin i mean). what really broke my spirit was when i read few days ago that their way of implementing technical vector pdf output was via make2d algorithm which essentially means rhino will never have proper tool in this regard. they will be able to demonstrate that feature on 3 boxes but it will never work on complex projects. it will be like any new feature, yes it works somehow but not sufficiently and after a while it will be abandoned.
rhino starts to resemble swiss knife but either blunt or made of plastic. it truly makes me sad because i had so much hope that rhino could be really best tool for me.
Yep we have BIG issues with importing PDF’s which didn’t exist in V7, really not great at all, I reported similar, see here in the forum @Guillermo_Varela is this being looked into ?
Hi,
no, as I said in the previous post, the problem was related to the huge paper size, have you checked it?
yep, nothing to do with huge paper size, clearly a bug as fine in V7 , see your quote below from the thread
" have already reported the PDF import problem as I told you in our email conversation: https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-80230/Import-pdf-changes-the-text-to-symbols"

Yes there are much things that Work pretty fine. As a long time Alias user. who still needs Alias a lot because of the surface quality, i have to say that Rhino is a realy
very stable surface modeler !!!And alias is double the price for a month than Rhino for lifetime! Perhaps its more constructive to post your issues without directly ranting!!!(Just a Idea please dont rant against me now)
You are even able to test Rhino 8 for 3 month before Purchasing . I did and i switched over to Rhino 8 from a Rhino 7 Version i just bought a few month ago (sad to Double spent the Money)
It is until it is not. “Directly” ranting is after a streak of errors which have been hindering me from work. And it is not like i was looking for the issues i just wanted to achieve something and it did not work.
-On saturday i wanted to print something so i made display mode to find out naked edges settings dont work as they should
-On sunday i read that technical printing relies on make2d algorithm which made me realize we are never going to have a solution here
-on monday i could not print my work because hatches were off (already solved)
-on tuesday i wanted to model some pipe work and wanted to use bounding box to snap to the corner of the pipe. bounding box was very off
-on wednesday i wanted to prepare 2d linework for further detailing in autocad. maked2d was just unusable producing total mess
-on thursday i wanted to use capsules in leaders in rebar drawing to find out they dont work
-on friday i wanted to import pdf of rebar schedule to find out it is an absolute mess (and it works flawlessly in autocad)
-i mixed some days but this is the story basically
-today i am going to test the same model where make2d was unusable inside autocad. i am very curious if autocad with flatshot command produces similar mess as rhino.
is it resolved by now?

The “State” field in YT reports indicate the state of a given item. In this case, the issue is still open.
