PDF Comparison: R7 versus R8

Hopefully this is helpful. I’m just going through the differences between printing in R8 verses R7:

R7 allows for both Vector and Raster. The house in the top right is raster but the title block and other things are Vector. I cannot do this in R8 yet.

The lack of Vector Output means that this page really suffers. I still need to tweak my R8 display mode. Things generally look better inside of R8 than they do R7. Just when we print…

R7 again is just better. It includes Vector/Raster combined.

Page 4: Nothing notable (looks pretty good in R8 just full raster) so I’ll skip it.

Page 5: More of the same. Also the lines don’t look good in R8:

Page 6: Ignore the display mode differences.

Page 7: I’ll only mention that being able to combine raster and vector was a HUGE help on this page.

Page 8: Looks really good in R8.

One issue I’ve encountered is that when I go into Monochrome, I get this:

This isn’t a biggie as Monochrome isn’t really the ideal display mode for sections (well maybe maybe not… but there’s other ways to achieve the look). Also I’m bringing this file in from R7.

Hello Keith,

Few Key differences between V7 and V8.

1- V8 handles Linetypes and Lineweights differently. the new introduced Linetype IMO is superior (only when it is done in Rhino 8), trying to print Rhino 7 Files that has the Legacy Linetype and Linewidth won’t be a guaranteed output, Unless Mcneel provide a Linetype Upgrade tool, in this case your model won’t be able to print correctly on V7.

2- For Thickened Linetypes (in pixels) : These are related to the thickness scaling in the display modes, and I think this YT is discussing it,
Linetype Width Set to Pixels Not Displaying or Printing : RH-79349 (myjetbrains.com)

I’m going to have another round at this at some point and probably play around with the line styles.

I’m kind of seeing that once everything gets sorted, the drawings have the potential to look pretty nice. The section styles have the potential to really simplify things. I might still do the overlays… but avoiding them would be a big convenience.
