I am trying to move a set of points from a poly line vertically ONLY, so that the bottom most point snaps to a different horizontal line. The only osnap setting that seems to work is “near” but when it “snaps” it is no longer locked horizontally and starts moving left to right along the second line. How do I prevent this side-to-side movement? Holding shift does not work, and none of the other osnap modes will actually snap to the second line. I only want to move the points vertically until the bottom most point intersects with the second line, but I cannot get it to work. I know I can split the second line with a vertical line, and then snap to the end point, but I’d rather figure out how to do that without extra steps if possible. I understand that “near” is fuzzy by necessity, but why can’t I lock it to a single axis?
Hold down on the Shift key and LMB while dragging.
Drag vertically until the point snaps to the line.
Let up on the LMB BEFORE letting up on the Shift key.
That is how I normally do it, and it sticks to the center for the most part, until it gets inside the “near” range, then it no longer respects the shift key, even if reapplied.
You need to press and hold the Shift key before you are at the target, and then move the cursor to the target in close to a vertical direction. Shift does not pull an already snapped cursor away from where it is snapped.
Yes, I understand what you are saying, I know how to use the shift key, I’m telling you it does NOT work with “near” osnap. “Near” breaks the ortho snap. When I was talking about reapplying the shift key, that was just something ELSE I tried that also did not work.
Shift for Ortho works for me with the Near Osnap.
