You can extract
faces instead of deleting them to produce two distinct objects.
An alternative would be to extract the control polygon, split the mesh, and convert back to SubD - a macro for which was posted a bit up in that thread.
FWIW, automatically splitting is on the list as RH-51988.

Thanks Wim. My request for how it would work, is to add that capability to ‘SplitDisjointMesh’. This is my natural reflex for what I wold expect to work.
I had put off reporting for a while, thinking it must have been me.
